I
originally qualified as a secondary school maths teacher
but after a few years of teaching decided it wasn't what
I wanted to do for ever. In order to escape, I left to study for an MSc
in Information Technology.
That was the beginning of my career in IT, specialising in database systems.
For just over 6 years I worked for the Medical Research Council (designing
and supporting Oracle database systems for managing clinical trials in
HIV infection) and for 4 years for Oracle (supporting large-scale bespoke
database systems).
Since 2001, I have worked freelance from home, designing websites for local small businesses and also taking on ad-hoc database management projects for my old colleagues at the MRC. My strong IT experience means that I am not content with flaky bug-filled systems, so I am continually evaluating and updating my knowledge.
A mother with 2 sons, I am most definitely not a "geek", so you should have no problem explaining your ideas to me!
