I
originally qualified as a secondary school maths teacher
but after a few years of teaching decided it wasn't what
I wanted to do for ever, and so I left to study for an MSc
in Information Technology.
That was the beginning of my career in IT, specialising in database systems.
For just over 6 years I worked for the Medical Research Council (designing
and supporting Oracle database systems for managing clinical trials in
HIV infection) and for 4 years for Oracle (supporting large-scale bespoke
database systems).
Since 2001, I have worked freelance from home, working on projects for
my old team at the Medical Research Council and running my own business
as a web designer. All my web skills
are self-taught, but my strong IT background ensures that I am not content
with flaky systems and therefore continually evaluate and update my knowledge.
A
mother with two boys, I am very definitely not a "geek" ..
so you should have no trouble explaining your ideas to me!
